Phentermine Drug Interactions and Safety Info

Since phentermine is a potentially addictive and habit forming, you need to address safety issues. Some of this info relates to drug interactions as well as how to not make this drug a bad habit for you.

Drug Interactions

Phentermine often causes a negative reaction when mixed with other diet medications or with MAOI antidepressants. You should be especially carefully when using it with weight loss drugs such as (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine (Redux).

Using it with either one of these other prescription drugs could cause hypertensive shock or other rare disease. It could also increase levels of nervousness or cause you to not be able to sleep, or a host of other annoying or dangerous problems.

You should also be concerned if you currently take one of these MAO inhibitors in particular: Isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine. You must be weaned off these drugs for at least 14 days before you can take phentermine or brand name equivalent of this drug.

If you take phentermine while on an MAOI you could possibly cause a fatal reaction similar to what occurs while mixing it with other prescription diet pills. A similar bad reaction might occur if you take any combinations of home or prescribed treatments for the following health conditions:

• Heart disease

• Arteriosclerosis

• Overactive thyroid

• Glaucoma

• Drug/alcohol addiction

• Depression/anxiety

• Psychotic disorders (Schizophrenia, delusional disorders, manic depression)

Additional Reactions

If you consume alcohol or you take illegal (or even legal) street drugs, it could react very badly with the phentermine. At the very least, it could intensify rashes, hives, diarrhea, constipation, nervousness, dizziness, headaches, swelling, insomnia, hyperventilation, etc.

At the very highest level of danger, it can cause death from shock to your system. This is especially true if you are mixing multiple drugs or alcoholic substances together.

Precautions

You need to be very careful and do not take this medication unless you are told to do so. Furthermore, you should follow the guidelines of usage or not take it at all.
